Do not spend time ¹  among drunkards, ²  among those who eat too much ³  meat,

because drunkards and gluttons become impoverished, and drowsiness ¹  clothes them with rags. ² 

The one who keeps the law ¹  is a discerning child, ²  but a companion of gluttons brings shame ³  to his parents. ⁴ 

(63:19b) ¹  If only you would tear apart the sky ²  and come down! The mountains would tremble ³  before you!

When you performed awesome deeds that took us by surprise, ¹  you came down, and the mountains trembled ²  before you.

They must declare to the elders ¹  of his city, “Our son is stubborn and rebellious and pays no attention to what we say – he is a glutton and drunkard.”

כ (Kaf) All her people groaned as they searched for a morsel of bread. ¹  They exchanged ²  their valuables ³  for ⁴  just enough food to stay alive. ⁵ “Look, O Lord! Consider ⁶  that I have become worthless!”

Because of this, the Lord said, ¹  “You must repent of such words and thoughts! If you do, I will restore you to the privilege of serving me. ²  If you say what is worthwhile instead of what is worthless, I will again allow you to be my spokesman. ³  They must become as you have been. You must not become like them. ⁴
