But if the slayer at any time goes outside the boundary of the town to which he had fled,

God brought them ¹  out of Egypt. They have, as it were, the strength of a wild bull. ² 

The Lord spoke immediately to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam: “The three of you come to the tent of meeting.” So the three of them went.

And the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the tent; he then called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came forward.

Do not let her be like a baby born dead, whose flesh is half-consumed when it comes out of its ¹  mother’s womb!”

those men who produced the evil report about the land, died by the plague before the Lord.

Then a fire ¹  went out from the Lord and devoured the 250 men who offered incense.

But Edom said to him, “You will not pass through me, ¹  or I will come out against ²  you with the sword.”

But he said, “You may not pass through.” Then Edom came out against them ¹  with a large and powerful force. ² 

Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the community went out to meet them outside the camp.

Divide the plunder into two parts, one for those who took part in the war – who went out to battle – and the other for all the community.

¹ These are the journeys of the Israelites, who went out of the land of Egypt by their divisions under the authority ²  of Moses and Aaron.

but a whole month, ¹  until it comes out your nostrils and makes you sick, ²  because you have despised ³  the Lord who is among you and have wept before him, saying, “Why ⁴  did we ever come out of Egypt?”’”

who will go out before them, and who will come in before them, ¹  and who will lead them out, and who will bring them in, so that ²  the community of the Lord may not be like sheep that have no shepherd.”

¹ Now the Lord ²  spoke ³  to Moses in the tent of meeting ⁴  in the wilderness ⁵  of Sinai ⁶  on the first day of the second month of the second year after ⁷  the Israelites ⁸  departed from the land of Egypt. ⁹  He said:

You and Aaron are to number ¹  all in Israel who can serve in the army, ²  those who are ³  twenty years old or older, ⁴  by their divisions. ⁵ 

¹ From the descendants of Gad: According to the records of their clans and families, all the males twenty years old or older who could serve in the army were listed by name.
