You should not have entered the city ¹  of my people when they experienced distress. ²  You should not have joined ³  in gloating over their misfortune when they suffered distress. ⁴  You should not have looted ⁵  their wealth when they endured distress. ⁶ 

Calamity is ¹  hungry for him, ²  and misfortune is ready at his side. ³ 

Is it not misfortune for the unjust, and disaster for those who work iniquity?

They confronted ¹  me in my day of calamity, but the Lord helped me. ² 

that the evil man is spared from the day of his misfortune, that he is delivered ¹  from the day of God’s wrath?

For the calamity from God was a terror to me, ¹  and by reason of his majesty ²  I was powerless.

The one who mocks the poor ¹  insults ²  his Creator; whoever rejoices over disaster will not go unpunished.

for suddenly their destruction will overtake them, ¹  and who knows the ruinous judgment both the Lord and the king can bring? ² 

Moab’s destruction is at hand. Disaster will come on it quickly.

“How often ¹  is the lamp of the wicked extinguished? How often does their ²  misfortune come upon them? How often does God apportion pain ³  to them ⁴  in his anger?

On my right the young rabble ¹  rise up; they drive me from place to place, ²  and build up siege ramps ³  against me. ⁴ 

when what you dread ¹  comes like a whirlwind, ²  and disaster strikes you ³  like a devastating storm, ⁴  when distressing trouble ⁵  comes on you.

Therefore, his disaster will come suddenly; in an instant ¹  he will be broken, and there will be no remedy.

I will scatter them before their enemies like dust blowing in front of a burning east wind. I will turn my back on them and not look favorably on them ¹  when disaster strikes them.”

I will get revenge and pay them back at the time their foot slips; for the day of their disaster is near, and the impending judgment ¹  is rushing upon them!”

Do not forsake your friend and your father’s friend, and do not enter your brother’s house in the day of your disaster; a neighbor nearby is better than a brother far away. ¹ 

Turn and flee! Take up refuge in remote places, ¹  you people who live in Dedan. ²  For I will bring disaster on the descendants of Esau. I have decided it is time for me to punish them. ³ 

Their camels will be taken as plunder. Their vast herds will be taken as spoil. I will scatter to the four winds those desert peoples who cut their hair short at the temples. ¹  I will bring disaster against them from every direction,” says the Lord. ²
