Then you must build an altar there to the Lord your God, an altar of stones – do not use an iron tool on them.

You must offer your burnt offerings, both meat and blood, on the altar of the Lord your God; the blood of your other sacrifices ¹  you must pour out on his ²  altar while you eat the meat.

The priest will then take the basket from you ¹  and set it before the altar of the Lord your God.

You must build the altar of the Lord your God with whole stones and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God.

They will teach Jacob your ordinances and Israel your law; they will offer incense as a pleasant odor, and a whole offering on your altar.

Instead, this is what you must do to them: You must tear down their altars, shatter their sacred pillars, ¹  cut down their sacred Asherah poles, ²  and burn up their idols.

You must not plant any kind of tree as a sacred Asherah pole ¹  near the altar of the Lord your God which you build for yourself.
