When the king crossed over to Gilgal, Kimham<n id="1" /> crossed over with him. Now all the soldiers<n id="2" /> of Judah along with half of the soldiers of Israel had helped the king cross over.<n id="3" />p>

So David said to Ittai, &#8220;Come along then.&#8221;<n id="1" /> So Ittai the Gittite went along,<n id="2" /> accompanied by all his men and all the dependents<n id="3" /> who were with him.p>

<p class="bodytext">So all the people crossed the Jordan, as did the king. After the king had kissed him and blessed him, Barzillai returned to his home.<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">All the land was weeping loudly<n id="1" /> as all these people were leaving.<n id="2" /> As the king was crossing over the Kidron Valley, all the people were leaving<n id="3" /> on the road that leads to the desert.

They crossed at the ford in order to help the king&#8217;s household cross and to do whatever he thought appropriate.p> <p class="bodytext">Now after he had crossed the Jordan, Shimei son of Gera threw himself down before the king.

David said to him, &#8220;If you leave<n id="1" /> with me you will be a burden to me.

<p class="bodytext">Meanwhile David had gone to Mahanaim, while Absalom and all the men of Israel had crossed the Jordan River.

So the king said to Barzillai, &#8220;Cross over with me, and I will take care of you while you are with me in Jerusalem.&#8221;p>

All his servants were leaving with him,<n id="1" /> along with all the Kerethites, all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites &#8211; some six hundred men who had come on foot from Gath. They were leaving with<n id="2" /> the king.p>

Now send word quickly to David and warn him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Don&#8217;t spend the night at the fords of the desert<n id="2" /> tonight. Instead, be sure you cross over,<n id="3" /> or else the king and everyone who is with him may be overwhelmed.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

So David and all the people who were with him got up and crossed the Jordan River.<n id="1" /> By dawn there was not one person left who had not crossed the Jordan.p>

But he said,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Whatever happens, I want to go!&#8221; So Joab<n id="2" /> said to him, &#8220;Then go!&#8221; So Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Jordan plain, and he passed the Cushite.p>

So the king returned and came to the Jordan River.<n id="1" />p> <p class="bodytext">Now the people of Judah<n id="2" /> had come to Gilgal to meet the king and to help him<n id="3" /> cross the Jordan.

<p class="bodytext">Now when Barzillai the Gileadite had come down from Rogelim, he crossed the Jordan with the king so he could send him on his way from there.<n id="1" />
