The Lord spoke to me again:

Daughter Tarshish, travel back to your land, as one crosses the Nile; there is no longer any marketplace in Tyre. ¹ 

¹ Why do you insist on being battered? Why do you continue to rebel? ²  Your head has a massive wound, ³  your whole body is weak. ⁴ 

For very soon my fury ¹  will subside, and my anger will be directed toward their destruction.”

This very day, standing in Nob, they shake their fist at Daughter Zion’s mountain ¹  – at the hill of Jerusalem.

In just a very short time ¹  Lebanon will turn into an orchard, and the orchard will be considered a forest. ² 

A fool will no longer be called honorable; a deceiver will no longer be called principled.

I am the Lord, I have no peer, ¹  there is no God but me. I arm you for battle, ²  even though you do not recognize ³  me.

I do this ¹  so people ²  will recognize from east to west that there is no God but me; I am the Lord, I have no peer.

Turn to me so you can be delivered, ¹  all you who live in the earth’s remote regions! For I am God, and I have no peer.

Remember what I accomplished in antiquity! ¹  Truly I am God, I have no peer; ²  I am God, and there is none like me,

Yet the children born during your time of bereavement will say within your hearing, ‘This place is too cramped for us, ¹  make room for us so we can live here.’ ² 

The sovereign Lord says this, the one who gathers the dispersed of Israel: “I will still gather them up.” ¹ 

Jerusalem will bring me joy, and my people will bring me happiness. ¹  The sound of weeping or cries of sorrow will never be heard in her again.

Before they even call out, ¹  I will respond; while they are still speaking, I will hear.

You will no longer be called, “Abandoned,” and your land will no longer be called “Desolate.” Indeed, ¹  you will be called “My Delight is in Her,” ²  and your land “Married.” ³  For the Lord will take delight in you, and your land will be married to him. ⁴ 

What more can I do for my vineyard beyond what I have already done? When I waited for it to produce edible grapes, why did it produce sour ones instead?

Even if only a tenth of the people remain in the land, it will again be destroyed, ¹  like one of the large sacred trees ²  or an Asherah pole, when a sacred pillar on a high place is thrown down. ³  That sacred pillar symbolizes the special chosen family.” ⁴
