All the people followed him up, playing flutes and celebrating so loudly they made the ground shake. ¹ 

Your servant stands ¹  among your chosen people; ²  they are a great nation that is too numerous to count or number.

Go, tell Jeroboam, ‘This is what the Lord God of Israel says: “I raised you up ¹  from among the people and made you ruler over my people Israel.

At that time the people of Israel were divided in their loyalties. Half the people supported Tibni son of Ginath and wanted to make him king; the other half supported Omri.

Omri’s supporters were stronger than those who supported Tibni son of Ginath. Tibni died; Omri became king.

Elijah then told all the people, “Approach me.” So all the people approached him. He repaired the altar of the Lord that had been torn down. ¹ 

The prophet ¹  then said to him, “This is what the Lord says, ‘Because you released a man I had determined should die, you will pay with your life and your people will suffer instead of his people.’” ² 

They observed a time of fasting and put Naboth in front of the people.

I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel.”

After all, ¹  they are your people and your special possession ²  whom you brought out of Egypt, from the middle of the iron-smelting furnace. ³ 

Then ¹  all the nations of the earth will recognize that the Lord is the only genuine God. ² 

He said to them, “Go away for three days, then return to me.” So the people went away.

The king responded to the people harshly. He rejected the advice of the older men

This caused Israel to sin; ¹  the people went to Bethel and Dan to worship the calves. ² 

All the leaders and people said to him, “Do not give in or agree to his demands.” ¹ 

This is what she wrote: ¹  “Observe a time of fasting and seat Naboth in front of the people.

So give your servant a discerning mind ¹  so he can make judicial decisions for ²  your people and distinguish right from wrong. ³  Otherwise ⁴  no one is able ⁵  to make judicial decisions for ⁶  this great nation of yours.” ⁷ 

He told David, ¹  ‘Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from all the tribes of Israel to build a temple in which to live. ²  But I have chosen David to lead my people Israel.’

then listen from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Certainly ¹  you will then teach them the right way to live ²  and send rain on your land that you have given your people to possess. ³ 

On the fifteenth day after the festival started, ¹  he dismissed the people. They asked God to empower the king ²  and then went to their homes, happy and content ³  because of all the good the Lord had done for his servant David and his people Israel.
