You must not offer false testimony against another. ¹ 

You replied to me that what I had said to you was good.

If a false ¹  witness testifies against another person and accuses him of a crime, ² 

The judges will thoroughly investigate the matter, and if the witness should prove to be false and to have given false testimony against the accused, ¹ 

Then they must proclaim, “Our hands have not spilled this blood, nor have we ¹  witnessed the crime. ² 

“The Levites will call out to every Israelite ¹  with a loud voice:

If it accepts your terms ¹  and submits to you, all the people found in it will become your slaves. ² 

‘Cursed is the one ¹  who makes a carved or metal image – something abhorrent ²  to the Lord, the work of the craftsman ³  – and sets it up in a secret place.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’ ⁴ 

Then you responded to me and admitted, “We have sinned against the Lord. We will now go up and fight as the Lord our God has told us to do.” So you each put on your battle gear and prepared to go up to the hill country.

then his sister-in-law must approach him in view of the elders, remove his sandal from his foot, and spit in his face. ¹  She will then respond, “Thus may it be done to any man who does not maintain his brother’s family line!” ² 

Then you must affirm before the Lord your God, “A wandering ¹  Aramean ²  was my ancestor, ³  and he went down to Egypt and lived there as a foreigner with a household few in number, ⁴  but there he became a great, powerful, and numerous people.

Then when ¹  many disasters and distresses overcome them ²  this song will testify against them, ³  for their ⁴  descendants will not forget it. ⁵  I know the ⁶  intentions they have in mind ⁷  today, even before I bring them ⁸  to the land I have promised.”
