These were the sons ¹  of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

The sons of Kohath by their families were: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

The families of the Kohathites were to camp on the south side of the tabernacle.

This is the service of the Kohathites in the tent of meeting, relating to the most holy things. ¹ 

“Take a census ¹  of the Kohathites from among the Levites, by their families and by their clans,

But to the Kohathites he gave none, because the service of the holy things, which they carried ¹  on their shoulders, was their responsibility. ² 

“When Aaron and his sons have finished ¹  covering ²  the sanctuary and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is ready to journey, then ³  the Kohathites will come to carry them; ⁴  but they must not touch ⁵  any ⁶  holy thing, or they will die. ⁷  These are the responsibilities ⁸  of the Kohathites with the tent of meeting.

From Kohath came the family of the Amramites, the family of the Izharites, the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites; these were the families of the Kohathites. ¹ 

¹ Now Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, who were Reubenites, ²  took men ³ 

And these are the Levites who were numbered according to their families: from Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; from Merari, the family of the Merarites.

These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korahites. Kohath became the father of Amram.
