The Lord your God has increased your population ¹  to the point that you are now as numerous as the very stars of the sky. ² 

When your ancestors went down to Egypt, they numbered only seventy, but now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky. ¹ 

“Because you have not served the Lord your God joyfully and wholeheartedly with the abundance of everything you have,

It is not because you were more numerous than all the other peoples that the Lord favored and chose you – for in fact you were the least numerous of all peoples.

There will be very few of you left, though at one time you were as numerous as the stars in the sky, ¹  because you will have disobeyed ²  the Lord your God.
