For my sighing comes in place of ¹  my food, ²  and my groanings ³  flow forth like water. ⁴ 

There is ¹  the roaring of the lion ²  and the growling ³  of the young lion, but the teeth of the young lions are broken. ⁴ 

When I refused to confess my sin, ¹  my whole body wasted away, ²  while I groaned in pain all day long.

Their roar is like a lion’s; they roar like young lions. They growl and seize their prey; they drag it away and no one can come to the rescue.

He broke down ¹  their strongholds ²  and devastated their cities. The land and everything in it was frightened at the sound of his roaring.

Listen to the howling of shepherds, because their magnificence has been destroyed. Listen to the roaring of young lions, because the thickets of the Jordan have been devastated.
