From there they moved on and camped in the valley of Zered.

¹ Then the entire community of Israel ²  entered the wilderness of Zin in the first month, ³  and the people stayed in Kadesh. ⁴  Miriam died and was buried there. ⁵ 

You must place them ¹  in the tent of meeting before the ark of the covenant ²  where I meet with you.

Why ¹  have you brought up the Lord’s community into this wilderness? So that ²  we and our cattle should die here?

Moses sent spies to reconnoiter ¹  Jaazer, and they captured its villages ²  and dispossessed the Amorites who were there.

Our children, our wives, our flocks, and all our livestock will be there in the cities of Gilead,

They traveled from Alush and camped at Rephidim, where there was no water for the people to drink.

But if the slayer at any time goes outside the boundary of the town to which he had fled,

Whenever the cloud was taken up ¹  from the tabernacle, then after that the Israelites would begin their journey; and in whatever place ²  the cloud settled, there the Israelites would make camp.

Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place from which you can observe them. You will see only a part of them, but you will not see all of them. Curse them for me from there.”

So the name of that place was called Kibroth Hattaavah, ¹  because there they buried the people that craved different food. ² 

When they went up through the Negev, they ¹  came ²  to Hebron where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, ³  descendants of Anak, were living. (Now Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan ⁴  in Egypt.)

When they came to the valley of Eshcol, they cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a staff ¹  between two men, as well as some of the pomegranates and the figs.

That place was called ¹  the Eshcol Valley, ²  because of the cluster ³  of grapes that the Israelites cut from there.

But ¹  the inhabitants ²  are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. Moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there.

We even saw the Nephilim ¹  there (the descendants of Anak came from the Nephilim), and we seemed liked grasshoppers both to ourselves ²  and to them.” ³ 

Only my servant Caleb, because he had a different spirit and has followed me fully – I will bring him into the land where he had gone, and his descendants ¹  will possess it.

I, the Lord, have said, “I will surely do so to all this evil congregation that has gathered together against me. In this wilderness they will be finished, and there they will die!”’”

For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and you will fall by the sword. Because you have turned away from the Lord, the Lord will not be with you.”

“Speak to the Israelites and tell them, ‘When you enter the land to which I am bringing you ¹
