After him Elon the Zebulunite led ¹  Israel for ten years. ² 

The Lord raised up leaders ¹  who delivered them from these robbers. ² 

After him Ibzan of Bethlehem ¹  led ²  Israel.

After him Abdon son of Hillel the Pirathonite led ¹  Israel.

Samson led ¹  Israel for twenty years during the days of Philistine prominence. ² 

When the Lord raised up leaders for them, the Lord was with each leader and delivered the people ¹  from their enemies while the leader remained alive. The Lord felt sorry for them ²  when they cried out in agony because of what their harsh oppressors did to them. ³ 

Now Deborah, a prophetess, ¹  wife of Lappidoth, was ²  leading ³  Israel at that time.

He led ¹  Israel for twenty-three years, then died and was buried in Shamir.

Jair the Gileadite rose up after him; he led Israel for twenty-two years.

Jephthah led ¹  Israel for six years; then he ²  died and was buried in his city in Gilead. ³ 

I have not done you wrong, ¹  but you are doing wrong ²  by attacking me. May the Lord, the Judge, judge this day between the Israelites and the Ammonites!’”

When a leader died, the next generation ¹  would again ²  act more wickedly than the previous one. ³  They would follow after other gods, worshiping them ⁴  and bowing down to them. They did not give up ⁵  their practices or their stubborn ways.

He had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkeys. He led Israel for eight years.

But they did not obey ¹  their leaders. Instead they prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped ²  them. They quickly turned aside from the path ³  their ancestors ⁴  had walked. Their ancestors had obeyed the Lord’s commands, but they did not. ⁵ 

The Lord’s spirit empowered him ¹  and he led Israel. When he went to do battle, the Lord handed over to him King Cushan-Rishathaim of Aram and he overpowered him. ² 

He had thirty sons. He arranged for thirty of his daughters to be married outside his extended family, ¹  and he arranged for thirty young women to be brought from outside as wives for his sons. ²  Ibzan ³  led ⁴  Israel for seven years;

His brothers and all his family ¹  went down and brought him back. ²  They buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. He had led ³  Israel for twenty years.
