When I was a son to my father, ¹  a tender only child ²  before my mother,

A gentle response ¹  turns away anger, but a harsh word ²  stirs up wrath. ³ 

Then Abraham ran to the herd and chose a fine, tender calf, and gave it to a servant, ¹  who quickly prepared it. ² 

Today I am weak, even though I am anointed as king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too much for me to bear! ¹  May the Lord punish appropriately the one who has done this evil thing!” ²
