<p class="poetry">&#8220;Whoever sheds human blood,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">by other humans<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">must his blood be shed;p> <p class="poetry">for in God&#8217;s image<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">God<n id="4" /> has made humankind.&#8221;p>

The <sc>Lordsc> God formed<n id="1" /> the man from the soil of the ground<n id="2" /> and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life,<n id="3" /> and the man became a living being.<n id="4" />p>

Then the <sc>Lordsc> God made<n id="1" /> a woman from the part he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

For your lifeblood<n id="1" /> I will surely exact punishment,<n id="2" /> from<n id="3" /> every living creature I will exact punishment. From each person<n id="4" /> I will exact punishment for the life of the individual<n id="5" /> since the man was his relative.<n id="6" />p>

So Esau said to Jacob, &#8220;Feed<n id="1" /> me some of the red stuff &#8211; yes, this red stuff &#8211; because I&#8217;m starving!&#8221; (That is why he was also called<n id="2" /> Edom.)<n id="3" />p>

The man and his wife were both naked,<n id="1" /> but they were not ashamed.<n id="2" />p>

But the <sc>Lordsc> God called to<n id="1" /> the man and said to him, &#8220;Where are you?&#8221;<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> God planted an orchard<n id="1" /> in the east,<n id="2" /> in Eden;<n id="3" /> and there he placed the man he had formed.<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> God took the man and placed<n id="1" /> him in the orchard in<n id="2" /> Eden to care for it and to maintain it.<n id="3" />

Then the <sc>Lordsc> God commanded<n id="1" /> the man, &#8220;You may freely eat<n id="2" /> fruit<n id="3" /> from every tree of the orchard,

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> God said, &#8220;It is not good for the man to be alone.<n id="1" /> I will make a companion<n id="2" /> for him who corresponds to him.&#8221;<n id="3" />

The man said, &#8220;The woman whom you gave me, she gave<n id="1" /> me some fruit<n id="2" /> from the tree and I ate it.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">The man<n id="1" /> named his wife Eve,<n id="2" /> because<n id="3" /> she was the mother of all the living.<n id="4" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">When humankind<n id="1" /> began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born<n id="2" /> to them,<n id="3" />

The <sc>Lordsc> regretted<n id="1" /> that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was highly offended.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">But the <sc>Lordsc> came down to see the city and the tower that the people<n id="1" /> had started<n id="2" /> building.

The <sc>Lordsc> God formed<n id="1" /> out of the ground every living animal of the field and every bird of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would<n id="2" /> name them, and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.

<p class="poetry">God created humankind<n id="1" /> in his own image,p> <p class="poetry">in the image of God he created them,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">male and female he created them.<n id="3" />p>

So the man named all the animals, the birds of the air, and the living creatures of the field, but for Adam<n id="1" /> no companion who corresponded to him was found.<n id="2" />

So the <sc>Lordsc> God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep,<n id="1" /> and while he was asleep,<n id="2" /> he took part of the man&#8217;s side<n id="3" /> and closed up the place with flesh.<n id="4" />
