The Lord confronted ¹  Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention.

They did not neglect any detail of the king’s orders pertaining to the priests, Levites, and treasuries. ¹ 

But as for us, the Lord is our God and we have not rejected him. Aaron’s descendants serve as the Lord’s priests and the Levites assist them with the work. ¹ 

Jeroboam did not regain power during the reign of Abijah. ¹  The Lord struck him down and he died.

but instead sought the God of his ancestors ¹  and obeyed ²  his commands, unlike the Israelites. ³ 

He followed in his father Asa’s footsteps and was careful to do what the Lord approved. ¹ 

He posted guards at the gates of the Lord’s temple, so no one who was ceremonially unclean in any way could enter.

The Lord sent prophets among them to lead them back to him. ¹  They warned ²  the people, but they would not pay attention.

King Tiglath-pileser ¹  of Assyria came, but he gave him more trouble than support. ² 

everyone who has determined to follow God, ¹  the Lord God of his ancestors, even if he is not ceremonially clean according to the standards of the temple.” ² 

He did not humble himself before the Lord as his father Manasseh had done. ¹  Amon was guilty of great sin. ² 

He did what the Lord approved ¹  and followed in his ancestor David’s footsteps; ²  he did not deviate to the right or the left.

Whenever your countrymen who live in the cities bring a case before you ¹  (whether it involves a violent crime ²  or other matters related to the law, commandments, rules, and regulations), warn them that they must not sin against the Lord. If you fail to do so, God will be angry with you and your colleagues; but if you obey, you will be free of guilt. ³ 

But Josiah did not turn back from him; ¹  he disguised himself for battle. He did not take seriously ²  the words of Necho which he had received from God; he went to fight him in the Plain of Megiddo. ³ 

Now King Solomon and all the Israelites who had assembled with him went on ahead of the ark and sacrificed more sheep and cattle than could be counted or numbered. ¹ 

The poles were so long their ends extending out from the ark were visible from in front of the inner sanctuary, but they could not be seen from beyond that point. ¹  They have remained there to this very day.

The priests could not carry out their duties ¹  because of the cloud; the Lord’s splendor filled God’s temple.

The priests were unable to enter the Lord’s temple because the Lord’s splendor filled the Lord’s temple.

When ¹  I close up the sky ²  so that it doesn’t rain, or command locusts to devour the land’s vegetation, ³  or send a plague among my people,

Solomon answered all her questions; there was no question too complex for the king. ¹
