Now I intend<n id="1" /> to make a covenant with the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel, so that he may relent from his raging anger.<n id="2" />

Now, <sc>Lordsc> God, may your promise<n id="1" /> to my father David be realized,<n id="2" /> for you have made me king over a great nation as numerous as the dust of the earth.

Now give me wisdom and discernment so<n id="1" /> I can effectively lead this nation.<n id="2" /> Otherwise<n id="3" /> no one is able<n id="4" /> to make judicial decisions for<n id="5" /> this great nation of yours.&#8221;<n id="6" />p>

You defeated Edom<n id="1" /> and it has gone to your head.<n id="2" /> Gloat over your success,<n id="3" /> but stay in your palace. Why bring calamity on yourself? Why bring down yourself and Judah along with you?&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

He said to them: &#8220;Listen to me, you Levites! Now consecrate yourselves, so you can consecrate the temple of the <sc>Lordsc> God of your ancestors!<n id="1" /> Remove from the sanctuary what is ceremonially unclean!

My sons, do not be negligent now, for the <sc>Lordsc> has chosen you to serve in his presence and offer sacrifices.&#8221;<n id="1" />p>

Hezekiah said, &#8220;Now you have consecrated yourselves<n id="1" /> to the <sc>Lordsc>. Come and bring sacrifices and thank offerings<n id="2" /> to the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple.&#8221; So the assembly brought sacrifices and thank offerings, and whoever desired to do so<n id="3" /> brought burnt sacrifices.p>

Now, don&#8217;t be stubborn<n id="1" /> like your fathers! Submit<n id="2" /> to the <sc>Lordsc> and come to his sanctuary which he has permanently consecrated. Serve the <sc>Lordsc> your God so that he might relent from his raging anger.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king, &#8220;We have no portion in David &#8211; no share in the son of Jesse!<n id="1" /> Return to your homes, O Israel!<n id="2" /> Now, look after your own dynasty, O David!&#8221;<n id="3" /> So all Israel returned to their homes.<n id="4" />

He told the Levites, who instructed all Israel about things consecrated to the <sc>Lordsc>, &#8220;Place the holy ark in the temple which King Solomon son of David of Israel built. Don&#8217;t carry it on your shoulders. Now serve the <sc>Lordsc> your God and his people Israel!
