When he has made her drink the water, then, if she has defiled herself and behaved unfaithfully toward her husband, the water that brings a curse will enter her to produce bitterness – her abdomen will swell, her thigh will fall away, and the woman will become a curse among her people.

The one who gathers the ashes of the heifer must wash his clothes and be ceremonially unclean until evening. This will be a permanent ordinance both for the Israelites and the resident foreigner who lives among them.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;So this will be a perpetual ordinance for them: The one who sprinkles<n id="1" /> the water of purification must wash his clothes, and the one who touches the water of purification will be unclean until evening.<n id="2" />

So it will be to him and his descendants after him a covenant of a permanent priesthood, because he has been zealous for his God,<n id="1" /> and has made atonement<n id="2" /> for the Israelites.&#8217;&#8221;p>

and the land is subdued before the <sc>Lordsc>, then afterward you may return and be free of your obligation to the <sc>Lordsc> and to Israel. This land will then be your possession in the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s sight.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;Then a man who is ceremonially clean must gather up the ashes of the red heifer and put them in a ceremonially clean place outside the camp. They must be kept<n id="1" /> for the community of the Israelites for use in the water of purification<n id="2" /> &#8211; it is a purification for sin.<n id="3" />

and if his father has no brothers, then you are to give his inheritance to his relative nearest to him from his family, and he will possess it. This will be for the Israelites a legal requirement,<n id="1" /> as the <sc>Lordsc> commanded Moses.&#8217;&#8221;p>
