But as for you, your dead bodies will fall in this wilderness,

Please forgive ¹  the iniquity of this people according to your great loyal love, ²  just as you have forgiven this people from Egypt even until now.”

I am not able to bear this entire people alone, ¹  because it ²  is too heavy for me!

Why ¹  have you brought up the Lord’s community into this wilderness? So that ²  we and our cattle should die here?

And on the fifteenth day of this month is the festival. For seven days bread made without yeast must be eaten.

For if you turn away from following him, he will once again abandon ¹  them in the wilderness, and you will be the reason for their destruction.” ² 

And do this ¹  to them to purify them: Sprinkle water of purification ²  on them; then have them shave ³  all their body ⁴  and wash ⁵  their clothes, and so purify themselves. ⁶ 

In the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, ¹  you are to observe it at its appointed time; you must keep ²  it in accordance with all its statutes and all its customs.” ³ 

From where shall I get ¹  meat to give to this entire people, for they cry to me, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat!’ ² 

Moses said to the Lord, “When the Egyptians hear ¹  it – for you brought up this people by your power from among them –

If you kill ¹  this entire people at once, ²  then the nations that have heard of your fame will say,

‘Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land that he swore to them, he killed them in the wilderness.’

Your dead bodies ¹  will fall in this wilderness – all those of you who were numbered, according to your full number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me.

I, the Lord, have said, “I will surely do so to all this evil congregation that has gathered together against me. In this wilderness they will be finished, and there they will die!”’”

Why ¹  have you brought us up from Egypt only to bring us to ²  this dreadful place? It is no place for grain, or figs, or vines, or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink!”

So Israel made a vow ¹  to the Lord and said, “If you will indeed deliver ²  this people into our ³  hand, then we will utterly destroy ⁴  their cities.”

For I will honor you greatly, ¹  and whatever you tell me I will do. So come, put a curse on this nation for me.’”

And now, I am about to go ¹  back to my own people. Come now, and I will advise you as to what this people will do to your people in the future.” ² 

¹ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up this mountain of the Abarim range, ²  and see ³  the land I have given ⁴  to the Israelites.

“‘On the tenth day of this seventh month you are to have a holy assembly. You must humble yourselves; ¹  you must not do any work on it.
