When the foundations ¹  are destroyed, what can the godly ²  accomplish?” ³ 

“Look at the nations and pay attention! ¹  You will be shocked and amazed! ²  For I will do something in your lifetime ³  that you will not believe even though you are forewarned. ⁴ 

For he repays a person for his work, ¹  and according to the conduct of a person, he causes the consequences to find him. ² 

But God has been my ¹  king from ancient times, performing acts of deliverance on the earth. ² 

The Lord works ¹  everything for its own ends ²  – even the wicked for the day of disaster. ³ 

Making a fortune ¹  by a lying tongue is like ²  a vapor driven back and forth; ³  they seek death. ⁴ 

and all people will fear. ¹  They will proclaim ²  what God has done, and reflect on his deeds.

For there is no spell against ¹  Jacob, nor is there any divination against Israel. At this time ²  it must be said ³  of Jacob and of Israel, ‘Look at ⁴  what God has done!’

But I fear the reaction ¹  of their enemies, for ²  their adversaries would misunderstand and say, “Our power is great, ³  and the Lord has not done all this!”’

They have stringed instruments, ¹  tambourines, flutes, and wine at their parties. So they do not recognize what the Lord is doing, they do not perceive what he is bringing about. ² 

Who acts and carries out decrees? ¹  Who ²  summons the successive generations from the beginning? I, the Lord, am present at the very beginning, and at the very end – I am the one. ³ 

This is what the Lord says, the Holy One of Israel, ¹  the one who formed him, concerning things to come: ²  “How dare you question me ³  about my children! How dare you tell me what to do with ⁴  the work of my own hands!
