<p class="bodytext">Then the word of the <sc>Lordsc> came to Samuel:

<p class="bodytext">Then Samuel said to Saul, &#8220;Wait a minute!<n id="1" /> Let me tell you what the <sc>Lordsc> said to me last night.&#8221; Saul<n id="2" /> said to him, &#8220;Tell me.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">David replied, &#8220;What have I done now? Can&#8217;t I say anything?&#8221;<n id="1" />

Eli<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;What message did he speak to you? Don&#8217;t conceal it from me. God will judge you severely<n id="2" /> if you conceal from me anything that he said to you!&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">Now Samuel did not yet know the <sc>Lordsc>; the word of the <sc>Lordsc> had not yet been revealed to him.

When David&#8217;s words were overheard and reported to Saul, he called for him.<n id="1" />p>

<p class="bodytext">When Saul&#8217;s servants reported what David had said,

<p class="bodytext">Jonathan<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8220;By no means are you going to die! My father does nothing<n id="2" /> large or small without making me aware of it.<n id="3" /> Why would my father hide this matter from me? It just won&#8217;t happen!&#8221;p>

Was it just today that I began to inquire of God on his behalf? Far be it from me! The king should not accuse<n id="1" /> his servant or any of my father&#8217;s house. For your servant is not aware of all this &#8211; not in whole or in part!&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

<p class="bodytext">Then the <sc>Lordsc> came and stood nearby, calling as he had previously done, &#8220;Samuel! Samuel!&#8221; Samuel replied, &#8220;Speak, for your servant is listening!&#8221;

The <sc>Lordsc> said to Samuel, &#8220;Look! I am about to do something in Israel;<n id="1" /> when anyone hears about it, both of his ears will tingle.

Samuel revealed the word of the <sc>Lordsc><n id="1" /> to all Israel.p><t /><p class="bodytext">Then the Israelites went out to fight the Philistines.<n id="2" /> They camped at Ebenezer,<n id="3" /> and the Philistines camped at Aphek.

When Samuel came to him,<n id="1" /> Saul said to him, &#8220;May the <sc>Lordsc> bless you! I have done what the <sc>Lordsc> said.&#8221;p>

<p class="poetry">For rebellion is like the sin of divination,p> <p class="poetry">and presumption is like the evil of idolatry.p> <p class="poetry">Because you have rejected the word of the <sc>Lordsc>,p> <p class="poetry">he has rejected you as<n id="1" /> king.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">Samuel said to Saul, &#8220;I will not go back with you, for you have rejected the word of the <sc>Lordsc>, and the <sc>Lordsc> has rejected you from being king over Israel!&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">Samuel did what the <sc>Lordsc> told him.<n id="1" /> When he arrived in Bethlehem,<n id="2" /> the elders of the city were afraid to meet him. They<n id="3" /> said, &#8220;Do you come in peace?&#8221;

Then he turned from those who were nearby to someone else and asked the same question,<n id="1" /> but they<n id="2" /> gave him the same answer as before.

However, Saul said nothing about it<n id="1" /> that day, for he thought,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Something has happened to make him ceremonially unclean. Yes, he must be unclean.&#8221;

The <sc>Lordsc> will do for my lord everything that he promised you,<n id="1" /> and he will make<n id="2" /> you a leader over Israel.

The <sc>Lordsc> has done exactly as I prophesied!<n id="1" /> The <sc>Lordsc> has torn the kingdom from your hand and has given it to your neighbor David!
