Under the lotus trees it lies, in the secrecy of the reeds and the marsh.

As for you, the one who lives ²  in the shelter of the sovereign One, ³  and resides in the protective shadow ⁴  of the mighty king ⁵  –

‘Cursed is the one who kills ¹  his neighbor in private.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

He would certainly rebuke ¹  you if you secretly ²  showed partiality!

I will be a permanent guest in your home; ¹  I will find shelter in the protection of your wings. ²  (Selah)

A gift given ¹  in secret subdues ²  anger, and a bribe given secretly ³  subdues ⁴  strong wrath. ⁵ 

He will surely ¹  give me shelter ²  in the day of danger; ³  he will hide me in his home; ⁴  he will place me ⁵  on an inaccessible rocky summit. ⁶ 

You hide them with you, where they are safe from the attacks ¹  of men; ²  you conceal them in a shelter, where they are safe from slanderous attacks. ³ 

In your distress you called out and I rescued you. I answered you from a dark thundercloud. ¹  I tested you at the waters of Meribah. ²  (Selah)

I will destroy anyone who slanders his neighbor in secret. I will not tolerate anyone who has a cocky demeanor and an arrogant attitude. ¹ 

my bones were not hidden from you, when ¹  I was made in secret and sewed together in the depths of the earth. ² 

‘Cursed is the one ¹  who makes a carved or metal image – something abhorrent ²  to the Lord, the work of the craftsman ³  – and sets it up in a secret place.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’ ⁴ 

So Jonathan told David, “My father Saul is trying ¹  to kill you. So be careful tomorrow morning. Find ²  a hiding place and stay in seclusion. ³ 

Riding on her donkey, she went down under cover of the mountain. David and his men were coming down to meet her, and she encountered them.
