&#8220;The man, the lord of the land, spoke harshly to us and treated us<n id="1" /> as if we were<n id="2" /> spying on the land.

You complained among yourselves privately<n id="1" /> and said, &#8220;Because the <sc>Lordsc> hates us he brought us from Egypt to deliver us over to the Amorites so they could destroy us!

But we replied, &#8216;We cannot go down there.<n id="1" /> If our youngest brother is with us, then we will go,<n id="2" /> for we won&#8217;t be permitted to see the man&#8217;s face if our youngest brother is not with us.&#8217;p>

Only on this one condition will these men consent to live with us and become one people: They demand<n id="1" /> that every male among us be circumcised just as they are circumcised.
