“When a man’s head is bare so that he is balding in back, ¹  he is clean.

But the hide of the bull, all its flesh along with its head and its legs, its entrails, and its dung –

If his head is bare on the forehead ¹  so that he is balding in front, ²  he is clean.

“‘The high ¹  priest – who is greater than his brothers, on whose head the anointing oil is poured, who has been ordained ²  to wear the priestly garments – must neither dishevel the hair of his head nor tear his garments. ³ 

Next, the one presenting the offering ¹  must cut it into parts, with its head and its suet, and the priest must arrange them on the wood which is in the fire, on the altar.

The priest must present it at the altar, pinch off ¹  its head and offer the head ²  up in smoke on the altar, and its blood must be drained out against the side of the altar.

He must bring them to the priest and present first the one that is for a sin offering. The priest ¹  must pinch ²  its head at the nape of its neck, but must not sever the head from the body. ³ 

“Bring the one who cursed outside the camp, and all who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the whole congregation is to stone him to death. ¹ 

Finally, he set the turban ¹  on his head and attached the gold plate, the holy diadem, ²  to the front of the turban just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

When the seventh day comes ¹  he must shave all his hair – his head, his beard, his eyebrows, all his hair – and he must wash his clothes, bathe his body in water, and so be clean. ²
