When Uriah came to him, David asked about how Joab and the army were doing and how the campaign was going.<n id="1" />

As she brought them to him to eat, he grabbed her and said to her, &#8220;Come on! Get in bed with me,<n id="1" /> my sister!&#8221;p>

Go to the king and speak to him in the following fashion.&#8221; Then Joab told her what to say.<n id="1" />p>

Absalom would then say to him, &#8220;Look, your claims are legitimate and appropriate.<n id="1" /> But there is no representative of the king who will listen to you.&#8221;

David said to him, &#8220;Your blood be on your own head! Your own mouth has testified against you, saying &#8216;I have put the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s anointed to death.&#8217;&#8221;p>

But now he is dead. Why should I fast? Am I able to bring him back? I will go to him, but he cannot return to me!&#8217;&#8221;p>

Then Absalom sent a message to Joab asking him to send him to the king, but Joab was not willing to come to him. So he sent a second message to him, but he still was not willing to come.

<p class="bodytext">Then Joab got up and came to Absalom&#8217;s house. He said to him, &#8220;Why did your servants set my portion of field on fire?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">On the seventh day the child died. But the servants of David were afraid to inform him that the child had died, for they said, &#8220;While the child was still alive he would not listen to us<n id="1" /> when we spoke to him. How can we tell him that the child is dead? He will do himself harm!&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

David inquired, &#8220;How were things going?<n id="1" /> Tell me!&#8221; He replied, &#8220;The people fled from the battle and many of them<n id="2" /> fell dead.<n id="3" /> Even Saul and his son Jonathan are dead!&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Afterward David inquired of the <sc>Lordsc>, &#8220;Should I go up to one of the cities of Judah?&#8221; The <sc>Lordsc> told him, &#8220;Go up.&#8221; David asked, &#8220;Where should I go?&#8221; The <sc>Lordsc> replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;To Hebron.&#8221;
