Then the <sc>Lordsc> said, &#8220;This means<n id="1" /> destruction will break out from the north on all who live in the land.

&#8220;Hear<n id="1" /> the terms of the covenant<n id="2" /> I made with Israel<n id="3" /> and pass them on<n id="4" /> to the people of Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem.<n id="5" />

<p class="poetry">Leave your towns, you inhabitants of Moab.p> <p class="poetry">Go and live in the cliffs.p> <p class="poetry">Be like a dove that makes its nestp> <p class="poetry">high on the sides of a ravine.<n id="1" />p>

<p class="poetry">&#8220;Destructive forces will come against the Babylonians,&#8221;<n id="1" /> says the <sc>Lordsc>.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;They will come against the people who inhabit Babylonia,p> <p class="poetry">against her leaders and her men of wisdom.p>

Then<n id="1" /> tell them, &#8216;The <sc>Lordsc> says, &#8220;I will soon fill all the people who live in this land with stupor.<n id="2" /> I will also fill the kings from David&#8217;s dynasty,<n id="3" /> the priests, the prophets, and the citizens of Jerusalem with stupor.<n id="4" />

<p class="poetry">Their houses will be turned over to othersp> <p class="poetry">as will their fields and their wives.p> <p class="poetry">For I will unleash my power<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">against those who live in this land,&#8221;p> <p class="bodytext">says the <sc>Lordsc>.p>

As you stand in those places<n id="1" /> announce, &#8216;Listen, all you people who pass through these gates. Listen, all you kings of Judah, all you people of Judah and all you citizens of Jerusalem. Listen to what the <sc>Lordsc> says.<n id="2" />

So the prophet Jeremiah spoke to all the people of Judah and to all the people who were living in Jerusalem.<n id="1" />

<p class="poetry">Come down from your place of honor;p> <p class="poetry">sit on the dry ground,<n id="1" /> you who live in Dibon.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">For the one who will destroy Moab will attack you;p> <p class="poetry">he will destroy your fortifications.p>

<p class="poetry">Turn and flee! Take up refuge in remote places,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">you people who live in Dedan.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">For I will bring disaster on the descendants of Esau.p> <p class="poetry">I have decided it is time for me to punish them.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">The <sc>Lordsc> says,p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;I will cause a destructive wind<n id="1" /> to blowp> <p class="poetry">against<n id="2" /> Babylon and the people who inhabit Babylonia.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">The person who lives in Zion says,p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;May Babylon pay for the violence done to me and to my relatives.&#8221;p> <p class="poetry">Jerusalem says,p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;May those living in Babylonia pay for the bloodshed of my people.&#8221;<n id="1" />p>

<p class="poetry">How long must the land be parched<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">and the grass in every field be withered?p> <p class="poetry">How long<n id="2" /> must the animals and the birds diep> <p class="poetry">because of the wickedness of the people who live in this land?<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">For these people boast,p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;God<n id="4" /> will not see what happens to us.&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

You, Pashhur, and all your household<n id="1" /> will go into exile in Babylon. You will die there and you will be buried there. The same thing will happen to all your friends to whom you have prophesied lies.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

For take note, I am already beginning to bring disaster on the city that I call my own.<n id="1" /> So how can you possibly avoid being punished?<n id="2" /> You will not go unpunished! For I am proclaiming war against all who live on the earth. I, the <sc>Lordsc> who rules over all,<n id="3" /> affirm it!&#8217;<n id="4" />p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Then, Jeremiah,<n id="1" /> make the following prophecy<n id="2" /> against them:p> <p class="poetry">&#8216;Like a lion about to attack,<n id="3" /> the <sc>Lordsc> will roar from the heights of heaven;p> <p class="poetry">from his holy dwelling on high he will roar loudly.p> <p class="poetry">He will roar mightily against his land.<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">He will shout in triumph like those stomping juice from the grapes<n id="5" />p> <p class="poetry">against all those who live on the earth.p>

I will punish him and his descendants and the officials who serve him for the wicked things they have done.<n id="1" /> I will bring on them, the citizens of Jerusalem,<n id="2" /> and the people of Judah all the disaster that I threatened to do to them. I will punish them because I threatened them but they still paid no heed.&#8221;&#8217;&#8221;<n id="3" />

<p class="poetry">So listen to what I, the <sc>Lordsc>, have planned against Edom,p> <p class="poetry">what I intend to do to<n id="1" /> the people who live in Teman.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">Their little ones will be dragged off.p> <p class="poetry">I will completely destroy their land because of what they have done.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="poetry">The <sc>Lordsc> says,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Flee quickly, you who live in Hazor.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">Take up refuge in remote places.<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">For King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon has laid out plans to attack you.p> <p class="poetry">He has formed his strategy on how to defeat you.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

<p class="poetry">Give the signal to attack Babylon&#8217;s wall!<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">Bring more guards!<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">Post them all around the city!<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">Put men in ambush!<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">For the <sc>Lordsc> will do what he has planned.p> <p class="poetry">He will do what he said he would do to the people of Babylon.<n id="5" />p>
