May those who persecute me be disgraced. Do not let me be disgraced. May they be dismayed. Do not let me be dismayed. Bring days of disaster on them. Bring on them the destruction they deserve.” ¹ 

So I will pull your skirt up over your face and expose you to shame like a disgraced adulteress! ¹ 

Do you people think ¹  that I am some local deity and not the transcendent God?” ²  the Lord asks. ³ 

Leave your orphans behind and I will keep them alive. Your widows too can depend on me.” ¹ 

Do not be afraid of those to whom I send you, ¹  for I will be with you to protect ²  you,” says the Lord.

Then the Lord said, “You have observed correctly. This means ¹  I am watching to make sure my threats are carried out.” ² 

They will attack you but they will not be able to overcome you, for I will be with you to rescue you,” says the Lord.

No, ¹  a wind too strong for that will come at my bidding. Yes, even now I, myself, am calling down judgment on them.’ ² 

I, the Lord, probe into people’s minds. I examine people’s hearts. ¹  I deal with each person according to how he has behaved. I give them what they deserve based on what they have done.

In anger, in fury, and in wrath I myself will fight against you with my mighty power and great strength! ¹ 

“I am the Lord, the God of all humankind. There is, indeed, nothing too difficult for me. ¹ 

Then Jeremiah told Baruch, “I am no longer allowed to go ¹  into the Lord’s temple.

I, the Lord, affirm that ¹  I know how arrogant they are. But their pride is ill-founded. Their boastings will prove to be false. ² 

The Lord told Jeremiah, ¹  “Tell Baruch, ²  ‘The Lord says, “I am about to tear down what I have built and to uproot what I have planted. I will do this throughout the whole earth. ³ 

Later the Lord asked me, “What do you see, Jeremiah?” I answered, “I see a branch of an almond tree.”

The Lord again asked me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a pot of boiling water; it is tipped toward us from the north.” ¹ 

I will make you as strong as a wall to these people, a fortified wall of bronze. They will attack you, but they will not be able to overcome you. For I will be with you to rescue you and deliver you,” ¹  says the Lord.

“Do you really think anyone can hide himself where I cannot see him?” the Lord asks. ¹  “Do you not know that I am everywhere?” ²  the Lord asks. ³ 

Then Jeremiah answered, “You will not be handed over to them. Please obey the Lord by doing what I have been telling you. ¹  Then all will go well with you and your life will be spared. ² 

If they do this, tell ¹  them, ‘I was pleading with the king not to send me back to die in the dungeon of Jonathan’s house.’” ²
