Now, divide up this land<n id="1" /> among the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.&#8221;p>

The land assignments to the nine-and-a-half tribes were made by drawing lots, as the <sc>Lordsc> had instructed Moses.<n id="1" />

The Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over armed for battle ahead of the Israelites, just as Moses had instructed them.

and ruled over Mount Hermon, Salecah, all of Bashan to the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and half of Gilead as far as the border of King Sihon of Heshbon.p>

Their territory included Jazer, all the cities of Gilead, and half of Ammonite territory<n id="1" /> as far as Aroer near<n id="2" /> Rabbah.

Half of Gilead, Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities in the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were assigned to the descendants of Makir son of Manasseh, to half the descendants of Makir by their clans.p>

Now Moses had assigned land<n id="1" /> to the two-and-a-half tribes east of the Jordan, but he assigned no land<n id="2" /> to the Levites.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">The Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh answered the leaders<n id="1" /> of the Israelite clans:

<p class="bodytext">King Sihon of the Amorites who lived<n id="1" /> in Heshbon and ruled from Aroer (on the edge of the Arnon Valley) &#8211; including the city in the middle of the valley<n id="2" /> and half of Gilead &#8211; all the way to the Jabbok Valley bordering Ammonite territory.

But the Levites will not have an allotted portion among you, for their inheritance is to serve the <sc>Lordsc>.<n id="1" /> Gad, Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have already received their allotted land<n id="2" /> east of the Jordan which Moses the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s servant assigned them.&#8221;p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">The Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh came to Geliloth near the Jordan in the land of Canaan and built there, near the Jordan, an impressive altar.<n id="1" />

The Israelites received this report:<n id="1" /> &#8220;Look, the Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh have built an altar at the entrance to<n id="2" /> the land of Canaan, at Geliloth near the Jordan on the Israelite side.&#8221;

So the Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh left the Israelites in Shiloh in the land of Canaan and headed home to their own land in Gilead,<n id="1" /> which they acquired by the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s command through Moses.p>
