These were the sons ¹  of Levi by their names: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

Moses said to Korah, “Listen now, you sons of Levi!

“Bring the tribe of Levi near, ¹  and present ²  them before Aaron the priest, that they may serve him. ³ 

“Take a census ¹  of the Kohathites from among the Levites, by their families and by their clans,

He has brought you near and all your brothers, the sons of Levi, with you. Do you now seek ¹  the priesthood also?

“Only the tribe of Levi ¹  you must not number ²  or count ³  with ⁴  the other Israelites.

“Number the Levites by their clans ¹  and their families; every male from a month old and upward you are to number.” ² 

¹ Now Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, who were Reubenites, ²  took men ³ 

You must write Aaron’s name on the staff of Levi; for one staff is for the head of every tribe. ¹ 

“Bring with you your brothers, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, so that they may join ¹  with you and minister to you while ²  you and your sons with you are before the tent of the testimony.

See, I have given the Levites all the tithes in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they perform – the service of the tent of meeting.

These are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korahites. Kohath became the father of Amram.

put fire in them, and set incense on them before the Lord tomorrow, and the man whom the Lord chooses will be holy. You take too much upon yourselves, you sons of Levi!”

On the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony – and ¹  the staff of Aaron for the house of Levi had sprouted, and brought forth buds, and produced blossoms, and yielded almonds! ² 

Now the name of Amram’s wife was Jochebed, daughter of Levi, who was born ¹  to Levi in Egypt. And to Amram she bore Aaron, Moses, and Miriam their sister.
