The Israelites, ¹  however, ²  were fruitful, increased greatly, multiplied, and became extremely strong, ³  so that the land was filled with them.

However, if the injured servant ¹  survives one or two days, the owner ²  will not be punished, for he has suffered the loss. ³ 

If a ransom is set for him, ¹  then he must pay the redemption for his life according to whatever amount was set for him.

But if he does not do it with premeditation, ¹  but it happens by accident, ²  then I will appoint for you a place where he may flee.

But if a man willfully attacks his neighbor to kill him cunningly, ¹  you will take him even from my altar that he may die.

But ¹  the midwives feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them; they let the boys live. ² 

When some ¹  shepherds came and drove them away, ²  Moses came up and defended them ³  and then watered their flock.

But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go, ¹  not even under force. ² 

Yet Pharaoh’s heart became hard, ¹  and he did not listen to them, just as the Lord had predicted.

But the wheat and the spelt ¹  were not struck, for they are later crops.) ² 

Moses alone may come ¹  near the Lord, but the others ²  must not come near, ³  nor may the people go up with him.”

But if the ox had the habit of goring, and its owner was warned, ¹  and he did not take the necessary precautions, ²  and then it killed a man or a woman, the ox must be stoned and the man must be put to death.

But they did not listen to Moses; some ¹  kept part of it until morning, and it was full ²  of worms and began to stink, and Moses was angry with them.

¹ During ²  that long period of time ³  the king of Egypt died, and the Israelites ⁴  groaned because of the slave labor. They cried out, and their desperate cry ⁵  because of their slave labor went up to God.

Every firstling ¹  of a donkey you must redeem ²  with a lamb, and if you do not redeem it, then you must break its neck. ³  Every firstborn of ⁴  your sons you must redeem.

and then ¹  if he gets up and walks about ²  outside on his staff, then the one who struck him is innocent, except he must pay ³  for the injured person’s ⁴  loss of time ⁵  and see to it that he is fully healed.

¹ “If an ox ²  gores a man or a woman so that either dies, ³  then the ox must surely ⁴  be stoned and its flesh must not be eaten, but the owner of the ox will be acquitted.

So now go, lead the people to the place I have spoken to you about. See, ¹  my angel will go before you. But on the day that I punish, I will indeed punish them for their sin.” ²
