It was now ¹  about noon, ²  and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, ³ 

He then ¹  told them a parable: ²  “The land of a certain rich man produced ³  an abundant crop,

But in truth I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s days, ¹  when the sky ²  was shut up three and a half years, and ³  there was a great famine over all the land.

But as for the seed that landed on good soil, these are the ones who, after hearing ¹  the word, cling to it ²  with an honest and good ³  heart, and bear fruit with steadfast endurance. ⁴ 

So ¹  when they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed ²  him.

As ¹  Jesus ²  stepped ashore, ³  a certain man from the town ⁴  met him who was possessed by demons. ⁵  For a long time this man ⁶  had worn no clothes and had not lived in a house, but among ⁷  the tombs.

Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing their babies in those days! For there will be great distress ¹  on the earth and wrath against this people.

Yet ¹  Elijah was sent to none of them, but only to a woman who was a widow at Zarephath in Sidon. ² 

It is of no value ¹  for the soil or for the manure pile; it is to be thrown out. ²  The one who has ears to hear had better listen!” ³ 

Then ¹  after he had spent everything, a severe famine took place in that country, and he began to be in need.

He got into ¹  one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then ²  Jesus ³  sat down ⁴  and taught the crowds from the boat.

But one after another they all ¹  began to make excuses. ²  The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, ³  and I must go out and see it. Please excuse me.’ ⁴ 

So ¹  they sailed over to the region of the Gerasenes, ²  which is opposite ³  Galilee.

In those days ¹  Mary got up and went hurriedly into the hill country, to a town of Judah, ² 

during the high priesthood ¹  of Annas and Caiaphas, the word ²  of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness. ³ 

Then ¹  Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River ²  and was led by the Spirit ³  in ⁴  the wilderness, ⁵ 

Was no one found to turn back and give praise to God except this foreigner?” ¹ 

And the child kept growing ¹  and becoming strong ²  in spirit, and he was in the wilderness ³  until the day he was revealed ⁴  to Israel.

After ¹  a few days, ²  the younger son gathered together all he had and left on a journey to a distant country, and there he squandered ³  his wealth ⁴  with a wild lifestyle.

There will be great earthquakes, and famines ¹  and plagues in various places, and there will be terrifying sights ²  and great signs ³  from heaven.
