One who beats an animal to death ¹  must make restitution for it, life for life. ² 

Moses then said to Aaron, “Approach the altar and make your sin offering and your burnt offering, and make atonement on behalf of yourself and on behalf of the people; ¹  and also make the people’s offering and make atonement on behalf of them just as the Lord has commanded.”

I will turn to you, make you fruitful, multiply you, and maintain ¹  my covenant with you.

for the life of every living thing ¹  is in the blood. ²  So I myself have assigned it to you ³  on the altar to make atonement for your lives, for the blood makes atonement by means of the life. ⁴ 

I will break your strong pride and make your sky like iron and your land like bronze.

What has been done ¹  on this day the Lord has commanded to be done ²  to make atonement for you.

I myself will make the land desolate and your enemies who live in it will be appalled.

Do not profane your daughter by making her a prostitute, ¹  so that the land does not practice prostitution and become full of lewdness. ²

So the priest will make atonement ¹  on his behalf before the Lord and he will be forgiven ²  for whatever he has done to become guilty.” ³ 

“Speak to the Israelites and tell them, ‘When a man makes a special votive offering ¹  based on the conversion value of persons to the Lord, ² 

“‘Then the land will make up for ¹  its Sabbaths all the days it lies desolate while you are in the land of your enemies; then the land will rest and make up its Sabbaths.
