If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us.

If anyone ¹  confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God resides ²  in him and he in God.

Thus ¹  we are writing these things so that ²  our ³  joy may be complete. ⁴ 

And this is the confidence that we have before him: that ¹  whenever ²  we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

If ¹  anyone sees his fellow Christian ²  committing a sin not resulting in death, ³  he should ask, and God ⁴  will grant ⁵  life to the person who commits a sin not resulting in death. ⁶  There is a sin resulting in death. ⁷  I do not say that he should ask about that.

The one who loves his fellow Christian ¹  resides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. ² 

Everyone who denies the Son does not have the Father either. The person who confesses the Son has the Father also. ¹ 

And everyone who has this hope focused ¹  on him purifies ²  himself, just as Jesus ³  is pure). ⁴ 

Everyone who practices sin ¹  also practices lawlessness; ²  indeed, ³  sin is lawlessness.

Little children, let no one deceive you: The one who practices righteousness ¹  is righteous, just as Jesus ²  is righteous.

that ¹  if our conscience condemns ²  us, that ³  God is greater than our conscience and knows all things.

Dear friends, if our conscience does not condemn us, we have confidence in the presence of God,

But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous, ¹  forgiving ²  us our sins and cleansing ³  us from all unrighteousness.

And if we know ¹  that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.

But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses ¹  us from all sin. ² 

The one who practices sin is of the devil, ¹  because the devil has been sinning ²  from the beginning. For this purpose ³  the Son of God was revealed: to destroy ⁴  the works of the devil.

Everyone who has been fathered ¹  by God does not practice sin, ²  because ³  God’s ⁴  seed ⁵  resides in him, and thus ⁶  he is not able to sin, because he has been fathered by God.

And the person who keeps his commandments resides ¹  in God, ²  and God ³  in him. Now by this ⁴  we know that God ⁵  resides in us: by the Spirit he has given us.

(The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has testified concerning his Son.) ¹ 

We know that everyone fathered ¹  by God does not sin, but God ²  protects ³  the one he has fathered, and the evil one cannot touch him.
