Now the high priest rose up, and all those with him (that is, the religious party of the Sadducees ¹ ), ²  and they were filled with jealousy. ³ 

not by all the people, but by us, the witnesses God had already chosen, ¹  who ate and drank ²  with him after he rose from the dead.

For some time ago ¹  Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody, and about four hundred men joined him. He ²  was killed, and all who followed him were dispersed and nothing came of it. ³ 

After him Judas the Galilean arose in the days of the census, ¹  and incited people to follow him in revolt. ²  He too was killed, and all who followed him were scattered.

But some from the religious party of the Pharisees ¹  who had believed stood up and said, “It is necessary ²  to circumcise the Gentiles ³  and to order them to observe ⁴  the law of Moses.”

Now while Gallio ¹  was proconsul ²  of Achaia, ³  the Jews attacked Paul together ⁴  and brought him before the judgment seat, ⁵ 

So the king got up, and with him the governor and Bernice and those sitting with them,

But after the disciples had surrounded him, he got up and went back ¹  into the city. On ²  the next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe. ³ 

The crowd joined the attack ¹  against them, and the magistrates tore the clothes ²  off Paul and Silas ³  and ordered them to be beaten with rods. ⁴ 

But some men from the Synagogue ¹  of the Freedmen (as it was called), ²  both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, as well as some from Cilicia and the province of Asia, ³  stood up and argued with Stephen.

So Peter got up and went with them, and ¹  when he arrived ²  they brought him to the upper room. All ³  the widows stood beside him, crying and showing him ⁴  the tunics ⁵  and other clothing ⁶  Dorcas used to make ⁷  while she was with them.

So the young men came, ¹  wrapped him up, ²  carried him out, and buried ³  him.

Immediately ¹  something like scales ²  fell from his eyes, and he could see again. He ³  got up and was baptized,

Peter ¹  said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus the Christ ²  heals you. Get up and make your own bed!” ³  And immediately he got up.

After there had been much debate, ¹  Peter stood up and said to them, “Brothers, you know that some time ago ²  God chose ³  me to preach to the Gentiles so they would hear the message ⁴  of the gospel ⁵  and believe. ⁶ 

So Saul got up from the ground, but although his eyes were open, ¹  he could see nothing. ²  Leading him by the hand, his companions ³  brought him into Damascus.

So Peter ¹  invited them in and entertained them as guests. On the next day he got up and set out ²  with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa ³  accompanied him.

So ¹  he got up ²  and went. There ³  he met ⁴  an Ethiopian eunuch, ⁵  a court official of Candace, ⁶  queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasury. He ⁷  had come to Jerusalem to worship, ⁸
