For the Lord your God will bless you just as he has promised; you will lend to many nations but will not borrow from any, and you will rule over many nations but they will not rule over you.

Then he will not exalt himself above his fellow citizens or turn from the commandments to the right or left, and he and his descendants will enjoy many years ruling over his kingdom ¹  in Israel.

This took place after the defeat ¹  of King Sihon ²  of the Amorites, whose capital was ³  in Heshbon, ⁴  and King Og of Bashan, whose capital was ⁵  in Ashtaroth, ⁶  specifically in Edrei. ⁷ 

These are the stipulations, statutes, and ordinances that Moses spoke to the Israelites after he had brought them out of Egypt,

When your children ¹  ask you later on, “What are the stipulations, statutes, and ordinances that the Lord our God commanded you?”

Now this is the law pertaining to one who flees there in order to live, ¹  if he has accidentally killed another ²  without hating him at the time of the accident. ³ 

And what other great nation has statutes and ordinances as just ¹  as this whole law ²  that I am about to share with ³  you today?

Keep his ¹  commandments very carefully, ²  as well as the stipulations and statutes he commanded you to observe.

So keep the commandments, statutes, and ordinances that I today am commanding you to do.

You must love the Lord your God and do what he requires; keep his statutes, ordinances, and commandments ¹  at all times.

Be certain to keep all the statutes and ordinances that I am presenting to you today.

You must not show pity; the principle will be a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, and a foot for a foot. ¹ 

The Lord, however, said to me, “Don’t be afraid of him because I have already given him, his whole army, ¹  and his land to you. You will do to him exactly what you did to King Sihon of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon.”

And he revealed to you the covenant ¹  he has commanded you to keep, the ten commandments, ²  writing them on two stone tablets.

Moreover, at that same time the Lord commanded me to teach you statutes and ordinances for you to keep in the land which you are about to enter and possess. ¹ 

Be sure you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments, ordinances, and statutes that I am giving you today.

If a person has a stubborn, rebellious son who pays no attention to his father or mother, and they discipline him to no avail, ¹ 

Today the Lord your God is commanding you to keep these statutes and ordinances, something you must do with all your heart and soul. ¹ 

‘Cursed is the one who refuses to keep the words of this law.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

They will teach Jacob your ordinances and Israel your law; they will offer incense as a pleasant odor, and a whole offering on your altar.
