The first disappeared ¹  and I said, “He has surely been torn to pieces.” I have not seen him since.

So Jacob named the place Peniel, ¹  explaining, ²  “Certainly ³  I have seen God face to face ⁴  and have survived.” ⁵ 

Israel said to Joseph, “Now let me die since I have seen your face and know that you are still alive.” ¹ 

So tell ¹  my father about all my honor in Egypt and about everything you have seen. But bring my father down here quickly!” ² 

So Hagar named the Lord who spoke to her, “You are the God who sees me,” ¹  for she said, “Here I have seen one who sees me!” ² 

“No, please take them,” Jacob said. ¹  “If I have found favor in your sight, accept ²  my gift from my hand. Now that I have seen your face and you have accepted me, ³  it is as if I have seen the face of God. ⁴ 

Then ¹  seven other cows came up after them; they were scrawny, very bad-looking, and lean. I had never seen such bad-looking cows ²  as these in all the land of Egypt!

Whenever ¹  I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,

Then he said, ‘Observe ¹  that all the male goats mating with ²  the flock are streaked, speckled, or spotted, for I have observed all that Laban has done to you.

The waters kept on receding ¹  until the tenth month. On the first day of the tenth month, the tops of the mountains became visible. ² 

If the God of my father – the God of Abraham, the one whom Isaac fears ¹  – had not been with me, you would certainly have sent me away empty-handed! But God saw how I was oppressed and how hard I worked, ²  and he rebuked you last night.”

So Leah became pregnant ¹  and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, ²  for she said, “The Lord has looked with pity on my oppressed condition. ³  Surely my husband will love me now.”

Enoch walked with God, and then he disappeared ¹  because God took ²  him away.

You know that I’ve worked for your father as hard as I could, ¹ 

And Abraham called the name of that place “The Lord provides.” ¹  It is said to this day, ²  “In the mountain of the Lord provision will be made.” ³ 

When Pharaoh’s officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh. So Abram’s wife ¹  was taken ²  into the household of Pharaoh, ³ 

“You know how I have worked for you,” Jacob replied, ¹  “and how well your livestock have fared under my care. ² 

Jacob set up a marker ¹  over her grave; it is ²  the Marker of Rachel’s Grave to this day.

He replied, “I’m looking for my brothers. Please tell ¹  me where they are grazing their flocks.”
