As ¹  Jesus ²  approached ³  Jericho, ⁴  a blind man was sitting by the road begging.

For David himself says in the book of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my ¹  lord, “Sit at my right hand,

that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit ¹  on thrones judging ²  the twelve tribes of Israel.

After ¹  three days ²  they found him in the temple courts, ³  sitting among the teachers, ⁴  listening to them and asking them questions.

After ¹  this, Jesus ²  went out and saw a tax collector ³  named Levi ⁴  sitting at the tax booth. ⁵  “Follow me,” ⁶  he said to him.

(Now about five thousand men ¹  were there.) ²  Then ³  he said to his disciples, “Have ⁴  them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”

to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, ¹  to guide our feet into the way ²  of peace.”

The man ¹  replied, ‘A hundred measures ²  of olive oil.’ The manager ³  said to him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and write fifty.’ ⁴ 

For which of you, wanting to build a tower, doesn’t sit down ¹  first and compute the cost ²  to see if he has enough money to complete it?

So ¹  the people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus. They ²  found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid.

They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to one another, ¹  ‘We played the flute for you, yet you did not dance; ²  we wailed in mourning, ³  yet you did not weep.’

“Woe to you, Chorazin! ¹  Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if ²  the miracles ³  done in you had been done in Tyre ⁴  and Sidon, ⁵  they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

Or what king, going out to confront another king in battle, will not sit down ¹  first and determine whether he is able with ten thousand to oppose ²  the one coming against him with twenty thousand?

Then ¹  Levi gave a great banquet ²  in his house for Jesus, ³  and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting ⁴  at the table with them.

“Would any one of you say ¹  to your slave ²  who comes in from the field after plowing or shepherding sheep, ‘Come at once and sit down for a meal’? ³ 

Now on ¹  one of those days, while he was teaching, there were Pharisees ²  and teachers of the law ³  sitting nearby (who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem), ⁴  and the power of the Lord was with him ⁵  to heal.

So they did as Jesus directed, ¹  and the people ²  all sat down.

But when you are invited, go and take the least important place, so that when your host ¹  approaches he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up here to a better place.’ ²  Then you will be honored in the presence of all who share the meal with you.

“When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, ¹  do not take ²  the place of honor, because a person more distinguished than you may have been invited by your host. ³ 

But from now on ¹  the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand ²  of the power ³  of God.”
