As a young man marries a young woman, so your sons ¹  will marry you. As a bridegroom rejoices over a bride, so your God will rejoice over you.

You Israelites! Return to the one against whom you have so blatantly rebelled! ¹ 

Predict how future events will turn out, ¹  so we might know you are gods. Yes, do something good or bad, so we might be frightened and in awe. ² 

Open the gates so a righteous nation can enter – one that remains trustworthy.

You say, ‘No, we will flee on horses,’ so you will indeed flee. You say, ‘We will ride on fast horses,’ so your pursuers will be fast.

There will be so few trees left in his forest, a child will be able to count them. ¹ 

As a mother consoles a child, ¹  so I will console you, and you will be consoled over Jerusalem.”

the people whom I formed for myself, so they might praise me.” ¹ 

So listen to this, oppressed one, who is drunk, but not from wine!

Whom are you worried about? Whom do you fear, that you would act so deceitfully and not remember me or think about me? ¹  Because I have been silent for so long, ²  you are not afraid of me. ³ 

So King Sennacherib of Assyria broke camp and went on his way. He went home and stayed in Nineveh. ¹ 

Remember this, so you can be brave! ¹  Think about it, you rebels! ² 

So the Lord cut off Israel’s head and tail, both the shoots and stalk ¹  in one day.

So I defiled your holy princes, and handed Jacob over to destruction, and subjected ¹  Israel to humiliating abuse.”

for just as the sky ¹  is higher than the earth, so my deeds ²  are superior to ³  your deeds and my plans ⁴  superior to your plans.

I will do this so ¹  people ²  will observe and recognize, so they will pay attention and understand that the Lord’s power ³  has accomplished this, and that the Holy One of Israel has brought it into being.” ⁴ 

As I have done to Samaria and its idols, so I will do to Jerusalem and its idols.” ¹ 

But they rebelled and offended ¹  his holy Spirit, ²  so he turned into an enemy and fought against them.

So now, residents of Jerusalem, ¹  people ²  of Judah, you decide between me and my vineyard!

So a strong nation will extol you; the towns of ¹  powerful nations will fear you.
