Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or tremble before them, for the Lord your God is the one who is going with you. He will not fail you or abandon you!”

and the Lord ¹  commissioned Joshua son of Nun, “Be strong and courageous, for you will take the Israelites to the land I have promised them, and I will be with you.” ² 

Now pay attention to all the commandments ¹  I am giving ²  you today, so that you may be strong enough to enter and possess the land where you are headed, ³ 

Then Moses called out to Joshua ¹  in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you will accompany these people to the land that the Lord promised to give their ancestors, ²  and you will enable them to inherit it.

You have eaten no bread and drunk no wine or beer – all so that you might know that I ¹  am the Lord your God!

From Aroer, ¹  which is at the edge of Wadi Arnon (it is the city in the wadi), ²  all the way to Gilead there was not a town able to resist us – the Lord our God gave them all to us.

Then you may spend the money however you wish for cattle, sheep, wine, beer, or whatever you desire. You and your household may eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and enjoy it.

They include the Anakites, ¹  a numerous ²  and tall people whom you know about and of whom it is said, “Who is able to resist the Anakites?”

They are a people as powerful, numerous, and tall as the Anakites. But the Lord destroyed the Rephaites ¹  in advance of the Ammonites, ²  so they dispossessed them and settled down in their place.

“O, Lord God, ¹  you have begun to show me ²  your greatness and strength. ³  (What god in heaven or earth can rival your works and mighty deeds?)

However, Joshua son of Nun, your assistant, ¹  will go. Encourage him, because he will enable Israel to inherit the land. ² 

(The Emites ¹  used to live there, a people as powerful, numerous, and tall as the Anakites.

a nation of stern appearance that will have no regard for the elderly or pity for the young.

Moses was 120 years old when he died, but his eye was not dull ¹  nor had his vitality ²  departed.

Commission ¹  Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, because he will lead these people over and will enable them to inherit the land you will see.”

you must say to them, ¹  “We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt in a powerful way. ² 

For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty, and awesome God who is unbiased and takes no bribe,

However, by no means eat the blood, for the blood is life itself ¹  – you must not eat the life with the meat!

Suppose a Levite comes by his own free will ¹  from one of your villages, from any part of Israel where he is living, ²  to the place the Lord chooses

They must declare to the elders ¹  of his city, “Our son is stubborn and rebellious and pays no attention to what we say – he is a glutton and drunkard.”
