And after the second curtain there was a tent called the holy of holies.

So with these things prepared like this, the priests enter continually into the outer tent ¹  as they perform their duties.

For a tent was prepared, the outer one, ¹  which contained ²  the lampstand, the table, and the presentation of the loaves; this ³  is called the holy place.

By faith he lived as a foreigner ¹  in the promised land as though it were a foreign country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, who were fellow heirs ²  of the same promise.

But now Christ has come ¹  as the high priest of the good things to come. He passed through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation,

But only the high priest enters once a year into the inner tent, ¹  and not without blood that he offers for himself and for the sins of the people committed in ignorance. ² 

a minister in the sanctuary and the true tabernacle that the Lord, not man, set up.

And both the tabernacle and all the utensils of worship he likewise sprinkled with blood.

We have an altar that those who serve in the tabernacle have no right to eat from.

The Holy Spirit is making clear that the way into the holy place had not yet appeared as long as the old tabernacle ¹  was standing.

The place where they serve is ¹  a sketch ²  and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary, just as Moses was warned by God as he was about to complete the tabernacle. For he says, “See that you make everything according to the design ³  shown to you on the mountain.” ⁴ 

Now the first covenant, ¹  in fact, had regulations for worship and its earthly sanctuary.

We must go out to him, then, outside the camp, bearing the abuse he experienced. ¹ 

So it was necessary for the sketches ¹  of the things in heaven to be purified with these sacrifices, ²  but the heavenly things themselves required ³  better sacrifices than these.

For the bodies of those animals whose blood the high priest brings ¹  into the sanctuary as an offering for sin are burned outside the camp.
