On the first day you must take for yourselves branches from majestic trees ¹  – palm branches, branches of leafy trees, and willows of the brook – and you must rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days.

I will give you your rains in their time so that ¹  the land will give its yield and the trees of the field will produce their fruit. ² 

Your strength will be used up in vain, your land will not give its yield, and the trees of the land ¹  will not produce their fruit.

“‘Any tithe ¹  of the land, from the grain of the land or from the fruit of the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.

“‘When you enter the land and plant any fruit tree, ¹  you must consider its fruit to be forbidden. ²  Three years it will be forbidden to you; ³  it must not be eaten.

Then in the fifth year you may eat its fruit to add its produce to your harvest. ¹  I am the Lord your God.
