The Lord’s spirit spoke through me; his word was on my tongue.

Ish-bosheth ¹  was unable to answer Abner with even a single word because he was afraid of him.

The woman conceived and then sent word to David saying, “I’m pregnant.”

Look, I will be waiting at the fords of the desert until word from you ¹  reaches me.”

and sent word through Nathan the prophet that he should be named Jedidiah ¹  for the Lord’s sake.

He ¹  won over the hearts of all the men of Judah as though they were one man. Then they sent word to the king saying, “Return, you and all your servants as well.”

So your servant said, ‘May the word of my lord the king be my security, for my lord the king is like the angel of God when it comes to deciding between right and wrong! May the Lord your God be with you!’”

Why have you shown contempt for the word of the Lord by doing evil in my ¹  sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and you have taken his wife as your own! ²  You have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites.

Now send word quickly to David and warn him, ¹  “Don’t spend the night at the fords of the desert ²  tonight. Instead, be sure you cross over, ³  or else the king and everyone who is with him may be overwhelmed.” ⁴ 

That night the Lord told Nathan, ¹ 

When David got up the next morning, the Lord had already spoken ¹  to Gad the prophet, David’s seer:

Then the woman said, “Please permit your servant to speak to my lord the king about another matter.” He replied, “Tell me.”

So David went up as Gad instructed him to do, according to the Lord’s instructions.

So now, O Lord God, make this promise you have made about your servant and his family a permanent reality. ¹  Do as you promised, ² 

The one true God acts in a faithful manner; ¹  the Lord’s promise is reliable; ²  he is a shield to all who take shelter in him.

For the sake of your promise and according to your purpose ¹  you have done this great thing in order to reveal it to your servant. ² 

So David sent a message to Joab that said, “Send me Uriah the Hittite.” So Joab sent Uriah to David.

But the king’s edict stood, despite the objections of ¹  Joab and the leaders of the army. So Joab and the leaders of the army left the king’s presence in order to muster the Israelite army.

Wherever I moved among all the Israelites, I did not say ¹  to any of the leaders ²  whom I appointed to care for ³  my people Israel, “Why have you not built me a house made from cedar?”’

(19:2) Joab was told, “The king is weeping and mourning over Absalom.”
