Blessed is that slave whom the master finds at work ¹  when he comes.

“What ¹  do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’

Why do you worry about clothing? Think about how the flowers ¹  of the field grow; they do not work ²  or spin.

They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go and work in the vineyard too.’

And the landowner ¹  replied to one of them, ²  ‘Friend, I am not treating you unfairly. Didn’t you agree with me to work for the standard wage? ³ 

and he said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead! And because of this, miraculous powers are at work in him.”

The one who had received five talents went off right away and put his money to work ¹  and gained five more.

When it was about nine o’clock in the morning, ¹  he went out again and saw others standing around in the marketplace without work.

And about five o’clock that afternoon ¹  he went out and found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why are you standing here all day without work?’

He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and I will give you whatever is right.’

When ¹  Jesus learned of this, he said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She ²  has done a good service for me.

saying, ‘These last fellows worked one hour, and you have made them equal to us who bore the hardship and burning heat of the day.’

In the same way, the one who had two gained two more.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the children ¹  of God.

Then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you. Go away from me, you lawbreakers!’ ¹ 

And after agreeing with the workers for the standard wage, ¹  he sent them into his vineyard.

When those hired about five o’clock came, each received a full day’s pay. ¹ 

no bag ¹  for the journey, or an extra tunic, ²  or sandals or staff, ³  for the worker deserves his provisions.

But when the Pharisees ¹  saw this they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is against the law to do on the Sabbath.”

Or have you not read in the law that the priests in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are not guilty?
