and he would not permit anyone to carry merchandise ¹  through the temple courts. ² 

They watched ¹  Jesus ²  closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath, ³  so that they could accuse him.

And wherever he would go – into villages, towns, or countryside – they would place the sick in the marketplaces, and would ask him if ¹  they could just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.

Jesus said to them, “Have you come with swords and clubs to arrest me like you would an outlaw? ¹ 

Then ¹  they crucified ²  him and divided his clothes, throwing dice ³  for them, to decide what each would take.

And if the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would be saved. But because of the elect, whom he chose, he has cut them ¹  short.

So ¹  he healed many who were sick with various diseases and drove out many demons. ²  But ³  he would not permit the demons to speak, ⁴  because they knew him. ⁵ 

Because of the crowd, he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him so the crowd ¹  would not press toward him.

Each night and every day among the tombs and in the mountains, he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

But you say that if anyone tells his father or mother, ‘Whatever help you would have received from me is corban’ ¹  (that is, a gift for God),

He ¹  appointed twelve (whom he named apostles ² ), ³  so that they would be with him and he could send them to preach

“If anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a huge millstone ¹  tied around his neck and to be thrown into the sea.

For the Son of Man will go as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if he had never been born.”

Going a little farther, he threw himself to the ground and prayed that if it were possible the hour would pass from him.

Day after day I was with you, teaching in the temple courts, yet ¹  you did not arrest me. But this has happened so that ²  the scriptures would be fulfilled.”

He said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?”

Those who passed by defamed him, shaking their heads and saying, “Aha! You who can destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,

Then ¹  Jesus ²  began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer ³  many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and experts in the law, ⁴  and be killed, and after three days rise again.

And whenever the unclean spirits ¹  saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”

He goes to sleep and gets up, night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.
