12:1 In Jehu’s <03058> seventh <07651> year <08141> Jehoash <03060> became king <04427>; he reigned <04427> for forty <0705> years <08141> in Jerusalem <03389>. His mother <0517> was Zibiah <06645>, who was from Beer Sheba <0884>. 12:2 Throughout <03605> his lifetime <03117> Jehoash <03060> did <06213> what the Lord <03068> approved <05869> <03477>, just as <0834> Jehoiada <03077> the priest <03548> taught <03384> him. 12:3 But <07535> the high places <01116> were not <03808> eliminated <05493>; the people <05971> continued <05750> to offer sacrifices <02076> and burn incense <06999> on the high places <01116>. 12:4 Jehoash <03060> said <0559> to <0413> the priests <03548>, “I place at your disposal all <03605> the consecrated <06944> silver <03701> that has been <0834> brought <0935> to the Lord’s <03068> temple <01004>, including the silver <03701> collected <05674> from the census <0376> tax, the silver <03701> received from <06187> those who have made vows <05315>, and all <03605> the silver <03701> that people <0376> have voluntarily <03820> contributed <05927> to the Lord’s <03068> temple <01004>. 12:5 The priests <03548> should receive <03947> the silver they need <0376> from the treasurers <04378> and repair <02388> any <03605> damage <0919> to the temple <01004> they discover <04672>.” 12:6 By the twenty-third <07969> <06242> <08141> year <08141> of King <04428> Jehoash’s <03060> reign the priests <03548> had still not <03808> repaired <02388> the damage <0919> to the temple <01004>. 12:7 So King <04428> Jehoash <03060> summoned <07121> Jehoiada <03077> the priest <03548> along with the other priests <03548>, and said <0559> to <0413> them, “Why <04069> have you not <0369> repaired <02388> the damage <0919> to the temple <01004>? Now <06258>, take <03947> no <0408> more silver <03701> from your treasurers <04378> unless <03588> you intend to use it to repair <05414> the damage <0919>.” 12:8 The priests <03548> agreed <0225> not <01115> to collect <03947> silver <03701> from the people <05971> and relieved <01115> themselves of personal responsibility for the temple <01004> repairs <02388>. 12:9 Jehoiada <03077> the priest <03548> took <03947> a chest <0727> and drilled <05344> a <0259> hole <02356> in its lid <01817>.
