22:45 Foreigners are powerless before me; ¹ 

when they hear of my exploits, they submit to me. ² 

2 Samuel 7:27

7:27 for you, O Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have told ³  your servant, ‘I will build you a dynastic house.’ ⁴  That is why your servant has had the courage ⁵  to pray this prayer to you.

[22:45]  ¹ tn For the meaning “to be weak; to be powerless” for the verb כָּחַשׁ (kakhash), see Ps 109:24. Verse 46, which also mentions foreigners, favors this interpretation. Another option is to translate “cower in fear” (see Deut 33:29; Pss 66:3; 81:15).

[22:45]  ² tn Heb “at a report of an ear they submit to me.” The report of David’s exploits is so impressive that those who hear it submit to his rulership without putting up a fight.

[7:27]  ³ tn Heb “have uncovered the ear of.”

[7:27]  ⁴ tn Heb “a house.” This maintains the wordplay from v. 11 (see the note on the word “house” there) and is continued in v. 29.

[7:27]  ⁵ tn Heb “has found his heart.”
