2 Thessalonians 2:12-14
Context2:12 And so 1 all of them who have not believed the truth but have delighted in evil will be condemned. 2
2:13 But we ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters 3 loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning 4 for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 2:14 He called you to this salvation 5 through our gospel, so that you may possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 6
[2:12] 1 tn Grk “that.” A new sentence was started here in the translation for stylistic reasons.
[2:12] 2 tn Grk “be judged,” but in this context the term clearly refers to a judgment of condemnation (BDAG 568 s.v. κρίνω 5.b.α; cf. KJV “that they all might be damned”). CEV views the condemnation as punishment (“will be punished”).
[2:13] 3 tn Grk “brothers.” See note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 1:3.
[2:13] 4 tc ‡ Several
[2:14] 5 tn Grk “to which,” referring to the main idea of v. 13.
[2:14] 6 sn That you may possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. For Paul the ultimate stage of salvation is glorification (Rom 8:30).
