[8:11]  1 sn The prince of the army may refer to God (cf. “whose sanctuary” later in the verse) or to the angel Michael (cf. 12:1).

[8:11]  2 tn Or perhaps “and by him,” referring to Antiochus rather than to God.

[8:11]  3 sn Here the sanctuary is a reference to the temple of God in Jerusalem.

[11:31]  4 tn Heb “arms.”

[11:31]  5 tn Heb “the sanctuary, the fortress.”

[11:31]  6 tn Heb “will give.”

[9:17]  7 tn Heb “hear.” Here the verb refers to hearing favorably, accepting the prayer and responding positively.

[9:17]  8 tn Heb “let your face shine.” This idiom pictures God smiling in favor. See Pss 31:16; 67:1; 80:3, 7, 19.

[9:17]  9 tn Heb “for the sake of my Lord.” Theodotion has “for your sake.” Cf. v. 19.
