[4:8]  1 tn Or “pure”; or “fair”; Heb “righteous.”

[4:8]  2 tn The Hebrew phrase הַתּוֹרָה הַזֹּאת (hattorah hazzot), in this context, refers specifically to the Book of Deuteronomy. That is, it is the collection of all the חֻקִּים (khuqqim, “statutes,” 4:1) and מִשְׁפָּטִים (mishpatim, “ordinances,” 4:1) to be included in the covenant text. In a full canonical sense, of course, it pertains to the entire Pentateuch or Torah.

[4:8]  3 tn Heb “place before.”

[16:19]  4 tn Heb “twist, overturn”; NRSV “subverts the cause.”

[16:19]  5 tn Or “innocent”; NRSV “those who are in the right”; NLT “the godly.”

[25:1]  7 tn Heb “men.”

[25:1]  8 tn Heb “they”; the referent (the judges) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[25:1]  9 tn Heb “declare to be just”; KJV, NASB “justify the righteous”; NAB, NIV “acquitting the innocent.”

[25:1]  10 tn Heb “declare to be evil”; NIV “condemning the guilty (+ party NAB).”

[32:4]  10 tc The LXX reads Θεός (qeos, “God”) for the MT’s “Rock.”

[32:4]  11 tn Or “just” (KJV, NAB, NRSV, NLT) or “righteous” (NASB).
