Judges 2:17

Context
2:17 But they did not obey 1  their leaders. Instead they prostituted themselves to other gods and worshiped 2  them. They quickly turned aside from the path 3  their ancestors 4  had walked. Their ancestors had obeyed the Lord’s commands, but they did not. 5 

Judges 11:17

Context
11:17 Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, “Please allow us 6  to pass through your land.” But the king of Edom rejected the request. 7  Israel sent the same request to the king of Moab, but he was unwilling to cooperate. 8  So Israel stayed at Kadesh.

Judges 17:2

Context
17:2 He said to his mother, “You know 9  the eleven hundred pieces of silver which were stolen 10  from you, about which I heard you pronounce a curse? Look here, I have the silver. I stole 11  it, but now I am giving it back to you.” 12  His mother said, “May the Lord reward 13  you, my son!”

Judges 20:48

20:48 The Israelites returned to the Benjaminite towns 14  and put the sword to them. They wiped out the cities, 15  the animals, and everything they could find. They set fire to every city in their path. 16

But v. 4 indicates that she did not give the money back to her son. Unless the statement is spoken by the woman to the LORD, it appears to be misplaced and fits much better in v. 2. It may have been accidentally omitted from a manuscript, written in the margin, and then later inserted in the wrong place in another manuscript.

[20:48]  16 tn Heb “to the sons of Benjamin.”

[20:48]  17 tc The translation is based on the reading מֵעִיר מְתִים (meir mÿtim, “from a city of men,” i.e., “an inhabited city”), rather than the reading מֵעִיר מְתֹם (meir mÿtom, “from a city of soundness”) found in the Leningrad Codex (L).

[20:48]  18 tn Heb “Also all the cities that were found they set on fire.”
